Offline First Aid

The short version

Offline First Aid is a native iPhone app from FigLantern LLC. It is designed to keep deterministic, source-linked first-aid guidance and saved trip information available without a network connection. The current release has no FigLantern account, backend, advertising, product analytics, or third-party tracking.

Trip preparation, conversation history, voice processing, and current-location matching stay on your device. One optional Lost Coast tide lookup contacts NOAA and sends a fixed tide-station identifier, the trip dates you selected, and request settings. It does not send your device location, medical or incident description, conversation, microphone audio, or an app account identifier.

Data the app handles

Saved on your iPhone

Depending on what you use, the app may save locally:

• prepared-trip destinations, activities, dates, route choices, readiness details, and kit confirmations;
• installed safety-module status and the source information included with those modules;
• first-aid incident descriptions and the deterministic guidance state created from them;
• nonmedical conversation questions, answers, provider labels, and selected-trip context; and
• app preferences and readiness state.

This information is stored in the app's local container using iOS storage. FigLantern cannot read it remotely because the current release has no FigLantern backend or account synchronization.

Microphone and speech

When you choose voice input or Hands-Free, the app accesses the microphone and uses Apple's on-device speech frameworks to transcribe the current interaction. Raw microphone audio is not saved as part of a trip or conversation. A transcript you submit as a question may be saved locally in conversation history. Apple may download speech assets needed for offline recognition.

Location

The app asks for location only after you choose Use Current Location. While the app is open, it uses the location supplied by iOS to match an already saved trip. Current location is not written into a trip record, added to the NOAA request, sent to FigLantern, used for analytics, or used to track you. You can select a saved trip directly without granting location access.

When the internet is used

• NOAA tide predictions. If you run the Lost Coast tide lookup, the app contacts a NOAA service using the Shelter Cove station identifier, your selected start and end dates, and tide units and response format. NOAA also receives normal web-request information such as IP address and request time. Read NOAA's privacy information.
• Apple system services. Apple provides on-device language and speech frameworks, may deliver required speech assets, and manages iOS permissions, App Store distribution, and device backups according to your Apple settings. Read Apple's privacy policy.
• Links you open.The app includes source and support links. If you open one, Safari or the destination site receives ordinary web-request information under that site's own privacy policy.

The source code contains a fail-closed boundary for a possible future connected conversation provider, but no such provider is active or configured in the current release. If FigLantern activates one in a later release, we will update this policy and the in-app disclosure before sending conversation content.

How data is used

The app uses local data to:

• prepare and store trip-safety information for offline access;
• match your current location to a trip you already saved;
• interpret an incident and route it into deterministic first-aid questions and guidance;
• transcribe voice commands and speak guidance during Hands-Free use;
• save and display local conversation history; and
• retrieve the optional NOAA tide reference you request.

FigLantern does not use app data for advertising, marketing, cross-app tracking, data brokerage, or a health advertising profile. The current release does not send product-usage analytics or crash reports to FigLantern or an analytics provider.

Retention and deletion

Local trip and conversation data remains on your iPhone until you delete it in the app or remove the app. Deleting a conversation removes its locally saved messages. Deleting a prepared trip removes its locally saved preparation state. Removing the app deletes its active local container from that device.

Existing iPhone or iCloud backups may retain a copy until Apple removes or overwrites that backup under your backup settings. FigLantern cannot reach into your device or Apple backup to delete local app data. NOAA may retain ordinary request records under its own policies; FigLantern does not control those records.

Rights and other details

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal data. Because the current release keeps app content on your iPhone and does not create a FigLantern account, FigLantern generally has no hosted app-content record to retrieve. Contact us if you believe the app sent personal data to FigLantern. We will not discriminate against you for making a privacy request.

Children

Offline First Aid is intended for people age 13 and older. It is not in Apple's Kids Category and is not intentionally designed or marketed to children under 13. The current release does not perform verified age assurance.

Safety and security

Offline First Aid is a prototype safety reference, not emergency services, medical diagnosis, or a replacement for professional care. Local-only design reduces data exposure, but device security and backups still depend on your iPhone and Apple settings. No system can guarantee absolute security.

Changes

We may update this policy when the app, providers, or law changes. The current version and effective date will remain at this URL. We will update the in-app disclosure before activating a materially new data path.
